The Question

You are required to use the correct Scientific Method to research, design, and conduct a scientific investigation to answer, "How does the slope of an incline affect the speed on an object moving freely down it?".

 

To answer this question, you will need to familiarise yourself with the scientific method to conduct an investigation.

  • Plank of wood
  • Common laboratory equipment.

Steps:

  1. Follow the steps of the Scientific Method flow chart (as shown in the video and the worksheet).
  2. Pose a research question for this task.
  3. Safely and ethically research experiments designed to investigate the concepts embedded in the provided question.
  4. Construct and state your hypothesis.
  5. Test your hypothesis using your selected experiment.
  6. Carefully record all data, including video and still images.
  7. Analyse the data and draw conclusions.
  8. Communicate your findings in the form of a Scientific Investigative Report.

Newton's Laws of Motion

You may or may not be aware that this report focuses on Newton's Laws of Motion. Specifically, his second law of motion. To properly understand what we are testing, watch the video regarding these laws. Our experiment will use the formula "f=ma". You are required to have a good understanding of this topic.
